We have two Hands On Media teams delivering workshops simultaneously: I am in New Orleans delivering teacher and student Stop Motion Animation workshops, and After Effects extraordinaire Justin Tripp has headed to Toronto to teach the Juice Mobile creative team how to create their own motion graphics for a full week!

We are both busy, but totally having a blast. :)

Aside from discovering the rich music and food scene down here (the very exciting New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is also taking place this week), I have been learning a lot about the New Orleans education system post-Katrina which is quite different from the way the school boards are run in Canada.  Most schools have been privatized and place a lot of emphasis on standardized testing and the hard sciences, with very little funding for the arts.  Thankfully there are plenty of incredible arts organizations that I have had the pleasure of working with already (Young Audiences of Louisiana, KidsmART and Big Class), ensuring that vibrant and effective arts and literacy programming is available to youth, no matter what their socioeconomic background.

We have 3 more workshops booked for the next week here in NOLA, but hereis a taste of what we've been up to during the 2 workshops we have done so far:

As the city gears up for the last Jazz Fest weekend, the sunscreen is slapped on, the iPads are charging and the clay is being bought for new animation characters.  We are loving you New Orleans!
