Podcast Episode #5: Tami Brewster - A Culturally-Sensitive Educator

Tami Brewster is a dynamic and enthusiastic educator, who has a deep passion for teaching and learning. As an Apple Teacher, Apple Professional Learning Specialist, Apple Distinguished Educator, and Apple Learning Coach hailing from Montreal, she is committed to creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of her students.

Tami believes that every learner has the potential to unlock greatness and creativity. A firm believer in equity, diversity, and inclusion, she places a great deal of importance on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Tami and I first met at an Ed Tech conference in Montreal December 2022, and have been connected through our work with Apple since then. I admire Tami's work and her approach to Digital Literacy, with a specific interest in culturally-relevant curriculum and her work with Indigenous communities.

In this episode, I asked about her first introductions to Digital Literacy in the classroom, what she has learned about effective Digital Literacy education in her role as a teacher, and where she hopes to see Digital Literacy education evolving in Canada, North America, and beyond. We end our conversation by speaking about tips she has for teachers wanting to incorporate Digital Literacy into their classroom or community. Spoiler alert: it has to do with a mindset shift!

You can learn more about Tami by connecting with her on Instagram, and if you are interested in learning more about Digital Literacy and Digital Storytelling workshops for your community or organization, or if you would like to share your Digital Literacy story, please send me a message from our website or a DM on our Instagram account.
