About Hands On Media Education (HOME):

HOME (www.handsonmediaeducation.com) equips youth, educators, communities and organizations with the skills they need to access, understand, critically evaluate and create digital media in order to navigate and participate-fully in a rapidly-evolving online media environment. Founded by Jessie Curell in 2015, we are looking to expand HOME’s impact and access for all to media education across BC and the Yukon. 

We are currently seeking a Business Development, Outreach & Sales Coordinator who, working closely with the Director, will design and implement business development initiatives to generate new opportunities, and contribute to revenue growth through outreach and sales to current and potential clients. We are looking for someone who is excited about media education, and is at ease collaborating with groups of facilitators, participants, and clients to ensure smooth programming. The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Sales & Marketing professional, and must be comfortable representing HOME across a variety of public-facing avenues. We are looking for an organized and focused individual, ready to collaborate with a small team of passionate, mission-driven people. This is a new role, so there is a great opportunity to shape and grow the position. 

Hands On Media Education is headquartered on the unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations (Vancouver), though the team is distributed. Ideally you live in the Vancouver area, though we may be flexible for the right candidate. This role is conceived to be a part-time 6-month contract, but we intend to increase the hours of this position towards a full-time position within 6-12 months. Some flexibility in working hours is required since programming will be offered to various clients in different time zones of Canada.

Responsibilities:

This role has split time between business development & outreach/sales.

Business Development (40%)

HOME provides communities and organizations with online & in-person Media & Digital Literacy Workshops. As a Business Development Coordinator, you will:

  • Design innovative ways to scale our small organization in BC and the Yukon through a variety of techniques and approaches

  • Conduct research and assess new contract opportunities 

Outreach & Sales (60%)

As HOME is scaling our operations across BC, the Yukon and beyond, we will be needing to conduct outreach and sales to increase the amount of revenue being brought into our small organization.  As an Outreach & Sales Coordinator, you will:

  • Identify & connect with new clients

  • Conduct sales calls and meetings with potential, future and existing clients

  • Collect feedback from clients following each workshop to improve future workshops

At a rapidly evolving and responsive organization, work may change and other duties may be assigned.

About you

Required skills and experience:

  • You have at least 2 years of Business Development and/or Sales experience 

  • You have experience with program or project management,

  • You are comfortable with sales and marketing of services and products,

  • You have a strong public service orientation with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of clients,

  • You are invested in employee growth and initiative, 

  • You are an excellent written and verbal communicator in English.

  • You are detail-oriented and organized

  • You take initiative and eager to grow into a leadership role through collaboration 

  • You are creative and excited to try new ways of doing things

  • You have knowledge of the Digital Literacy field

  • You have knowledge of inclusive design and accessibility best practices within education

  • You are comfortable collecting and using data to present reports and make decisions

  • You are familiar using Zoom, Apple apps, Google Suite, Mailchimp, Canva, Facebook and Instagram

  • You are mission-driven and fuelled to improve the educational sector

Compensation, Benefits, and Workplace Culture

Compensation: $50/hour X 10 hours/week + 15% Commission from each new contract you are successful in securing.
