NFB @ Nuit Blanche 2024 Program

public pixilation animation station design & facilitation

The National Film Board wished to participate in Nuit Blanche festivities and programming March 2nd 2024 with a 2 Station 7-hour interactive Pixilation Activity hosted in the NFB Space of their downtown building. From concept to final event activity execution, Jessie worked with the NFB for 3 months to create a unique, interactive, educational and unforgettable experience for all ages and abilities.

Inspired by this year’s theme of “Fantasy”, members of the public were invited to learn about the NFB, how animation is made, and how to create their own using a fantastical, engaging and interactive Pixilation activity that was free-of-charge, and fun for the whole family.   In total 91 films were created with 171 participants, each receiving their own project via AirDrop or email upon completion of the activity. To learn more about the event, read Jessie’s blog post here.

Educational outreach & Media Production consultation

Archive/Counter-Archive is a 6-year SSHRC-funded project led by Janine Marchessault (York University) dedicated to activating and remediating audiovisual archives created by women, Indigenous Peoples, the LGBT2Q+ community, and immigrant communities. Political, resistant, and community-based, counter-archives disrupt conventional narratives and enrich our histories.

As a member of the Education & Outreach Team, Hands On Media is helping facilitate research, discussion, and pedagogy in response to these concerns, with attention to AV heritage in secondary and post-secondary education, strongly connected to professional education in AV preservation.
