Podcast Episode #4: Kimberley Wahl - Literacy Expert

We are living in a challenging time, where too many parents feel overwhelmed trying to prevent harm and addiction when it comes to their child's online use. How do we help our kids learn how to use tech and the internet safely, while causing minimal damage to themselves and others?

I invited Kimberley Wahl to speak with me about Digital Literacy and parenting, and all of the complexities that come with trying to strike a balance for our children's mental health and success.

Kim is the Director of Education and co-owner of Symbols Multi-Sensory Learning Centres, a 1-to-1 Orton-Gillingham tutoring centre that serves students with langue-based learning differences across the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and online. She is a certified Orton-Gillingham practitioner at the Supervisor level through OG Canada, and a mom of three, currently pursuing a Masters of Arts degree through Mount St. Joseph University in the Science of Reading.

We hope you enjoy our conversation, and if you are interested in learning more about parenting and Digital Literacy, you can check out my book review of "The Connected Parent" by John Palfrey & Urs Gasser which highlights the importance of maintaining an open dialogue with your children before it's too late.

I hope you enjoy my conversation with Kim, and please check out our website to book your own Digital Literacy workshop. You can also follow us on IG @hands_on_media. Happy listening!
